Registration Materials
As part of the registration process in the spring/summer (after receiving an offer of admission), we require three documents:
- birth certificate or other age verification, e.g. passport
- immunization record
- early childhood screening (Kindergarten only)
Early Childhood Screening
From the Minnesota Department of Education:
The Early Childhood Screening program includes vision and hearing, height and weight, immunization review, review of health care coverage, risk factors which may impact learning, large and small muscles, thinking, language and speaking skills as well as parent report of social emotional development, and a parent summary meeting. Early Childhood Screening (ECS) by a school district or evidence of a comparable screening by a non-school provider is required for entrance in Minnesota’s public schools.
TCGIS requires incoming Kindergarten students to submit the report/summary from their ECS as part of their registration documentation. Click here to read more about the ECS. Most parents complete the ECS through their local school district. You can search PollFinder to find which school district you live in, and then find it in MDE's list of screening providers. HelpMeConnect is another useful tool for finding your local school district as well as other resources.

School Supplies And Start/End Times
If you're joining TCGIS after the first day of school, the Enrollment Coordinator will work with you to determine what day your child(ren) will start school.
Please view the supply lists for grades K-8 to know what to bring to school on the first day (2026-2027 school supply lists will be available during the summer).
Classes start at 8:15 AM, but your child should arrive by 8:10 to have time to get to class. The school day ends at 3:15 on most days, with early release days ending at 12:45. Early release days, as well as other school events, are posted on our calendar.
Please view the family handbook for arrival and dismissal procedures at TCGIS.

Pikmykid and dismissal
TCGIS uses a mobile application called PikMyKid to organize our dismissal at the end of the school day for our elementary school students only. If you're joining before the start of the school year, you will receive information about adding your children to Pikmykid in August. PikMyKid is how the office knows where your child should go at the end of the day whether that's on a bus, to Kinderclub, to the car pickup line, or another way home. Middle school students are independently dismissed and do not use PikMyKid.
- Overview video here
- Download the free app from the iPhone or Google Play store
- Follow the instructions on the app to register (PikMyKid's registration instructions are here)
- Your elementary school children should automatically appear in your app after they are assigned to a class section. If you don't see them after registering, email [email protected]
- General instructions on navigating the app are here
- Update your child(ren)'s default dismissal modes if necessary
- Set any recurring changes and make sure to set an end date to the change (otherwise it will continue permanently)
- General instructions on navigating the app are here
- Please check out our video and/or PDF of arrival and dismissal procedures at TCGIS. PikMyKid is used only for dismissal.
- You may only delegate your child(ren) to Kinderclub if you have registered for Kinderclub on that day. You can register via RegPack.
- Only students who are registered to ride the bus will be able to be delegated to the bus in PikMyKid.
- Your child(ren)'s default mode is set automatically to Van Slyke Car Pick-Up. If you would like to set a different default delegation, please email [email protected].
- You will receive a paper tag for your car for Van Slyke Car Pickup. Please place this in the passenger window of your car.
- Each day's dismissal can be changed until 2:20 PM. If you need to make a change after 2:20, please email [email protected].
- PikMyKid is only used for Elementary School.
- Middle school bus riders are included in the app, but you do not need to change their dismissal modes. MS students are expected to communicate with their parents about how they will go home each day. If questions arise, the front office will call home.

Busing
If you are interested in riding the bus to or from school, please review the information within your registration email. Please direct any busing questions to Nicole Crashell at [email protected].
The yearly timeline for bus registration is as follows:
Students can register for the bus mid-year as long as there is room on the route.
The yearly timeline for bus registration is as follows:
- Late spring (May): all new and returning families receive the bus route planning form. This form allows you to indicate if you are interested in riding the bus for the next school year and which stop(s) you would like to use. You may also request changes to the bus route. This form does NOT register your student(s) to ride the bus.
- June and early July: TCGIS's transportation coordinator explores the requests for route changes and coordinates between families and the bus company to see which changes can be accommodated. Priority is given to stops which are already on the existing route.
- Mid-July: all families receive the official bus registration form with the finalized bus routes. This form MUST be filled out to be assigned to a bus route. The deadline is the end of July.
- August: bus registrations are processed by the bus company and bus stop times are finalized. The final times will be communicated to families by the bus company prior to the first day of school.
Students can register for the bus mid-year as long as there is room on the route.

Immersion and Literacy Development
As families join an immersion program, it is natural to have questions about how children develop language and literacy while learning in German. In order to provide a clearer picture, we are sharing this infosheet (also available here in Spanish) about literacy development trajectories in German and English and how to support your child’s immersion journey. Feel free to begin browsing our German Enrichment Website to start bringing in the German language at home, or check out German summer programs at TCGIS, the Germanic-American Institute, or other community education offerings!
Carpooling
In addition to busing (information above), TCGIS has a carpool program called ZU-VON for families to utilize. Click the link to fill out a Google Form that will help you connect with other families looking to carpool! Further communication connecting interested families will be coming in August. This is independent from TCGIS, as we offer the resource for families to connect but do not do any of the planning or arranging of carpools.
School Policies
We ask all families to review & be aware of our attendance policy and school discipline & code of conduct policy. All of our school policies can be found here.
Guardianship & Custody
If your family has a unique guardianship situation or any restrictions on guardians of which the school should be aware, please email [email protected] and include any documentation to be added to your child(ren)'s file.
We acknowledge and appreciate that TCGIS is located on Waȟpékhute (wah-PEH-koo-tay) Dakota traditional, ancestral, and contemporary homeland, near Lake Medewaka, in the land now known as Minnesota (Mni Sota Makoce). Read our full TCGIS Indigenous Land Acknowledgement here.
