General Hiring Information
American Citizens: All elementary classroom teaching positions require fluency in German and a valid Minnesota teaching license. Most middle school teaching positions require a valid Minnesota teaching license.
German-speaking Residents in the USA: Native German speakers may qualify for teaching positions with a German teaching license, or as a Community Expert with the state of Minnesota. Please see the Minnesota Department of Education website for licensing details.
Teachers from German-Speaking Countries: Teachers from German-speaking countries can be employed at TCGIS through a variety of ways. To work directly with the school on possible employment, send a cover letter, resumé, copies of transcripts and two letters of reference to e[email protected]. TCGIS has resources for assisting with work visas for qualified German-speaking teaching candidates. Some German teachers come to TCGIS through the STEP program of the Checkpoint Charlie Foundation in Berlin, Germany. Please access their application material at www.cc-stiftung.de. Student Teachers & Interns: Most of our classroom assistant positions are filled by native German speakers through our Intern program. We collaborate closely with CICD - the Center for International Career Development on obtaining the required J-1 Visa for a teaching internship in the US. For more questions, please contact the Intern Coordinator Claudia Müller.
