Welcome to TCGIS

Liebe TCGIS Gemeinschaft,

Looking forward to the 2020-21 school year, the only sure thing is that it will be an unforgettable one.

COVID, hybrid schedule, connection weeks, distance learning, PPE - our shared lexicon has so many new terms that would have baffled us just twelve months ago. Simultaneously, we are living through social and political events that are not only polarizing and unsettling, but also inspiring and motivating. As Minnesotans and as Americans, the weight is more than ever before, yet throughout this, we come together as a community, staying focused on the mission which brings us together:

Innovative education of the whole child through German immersion.

Let’s unpack this a little:

Innovative Education:
It’s clear that innovation during the coming year is a foregone conclusion. The months and weeks leading up to the start of school have presented novel problems one after another and educators around the world have risen to this challenge. It has been truly inspiring to witness the readiness to simply get to work on these challenges that the TCGIS team has brought.

The Whole Child:
We are fortunate to have had this emphasis in the TCGIS mission for years now. This year, more than any other, will require us to build up and nurture our kids’ social-emotional foundations, making the academic learning possible.

German Immersion:
Generally, the world learns English to gain access to jobs and education. We learn German because we see the value of seeing the world through the lens of another language and culture. We challenge ourselves and our kids to take this on because we believe a broadened perspective and deepened understanding of our world comes through the ability to speak, understand, read, and write German and this will help our kids to better find their place in our world.

So as we navigate the 2020-21 school year, please join us in focusing our shared mission to get us through these choppy waters.

Gemeinsam sind wir stark! / Together we are strong!
