Family Groups

Picture
TCGIS family/affinity groups are groups for students, parents/caregivers and staff, aimed at bringing together individuals with a common identity to build relationships within a supportive community. They are an integral and operational component of fulfilling the TCGIS mission and vision. These groups support the school’s goal that all members of the TCGIS community feel supported, seen and heard. Find out more information about our five different family groups below!
BIPOC

The term “Black, Indigenous, People of Color” includes people from Black/African American, Asian American, Middle-Eastern American, American Indian/Native American, Latino/Hispanic, and multiracial backgrounds. The BIPOC family affinity group is open to those who identify as, or have children who identify as, people of color and their allies. This group organizes fun gatherings to foster community and positive relationships among TCGIS BIPOC community members, make connections and increase sense of belonging for BIPOC students, families, and staff. Please contact Julie Alkatout for more information.
PARENT/CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP

This group is designed to bring parents and caregivers together in their parenting journey. Together we will explore timely themes. This group is facilitated by the school social worker and parent driven to support, inspire, encourage and empower each other in the journey of raising children in today’s world with all the opportunities and challenges. You are welcome to join this group at any time and as often as you like. The group will meet about once a month and the meeting time, day and location will be determined as a group to best fit the group's needs. Follow the Rundbrief, social media and TCGIS website for event updates. If you are interested please feel free to contact [email protected] at any time in the year with any questions and input.
MODERN FAMILY

This group is designed to be a space for single parent, foster, and blended families to share experiences, build community and provide guidance to each other. If you are interested in becoming a member or even would like to lead this group, please contact Charles Price.
GUN SAFETY

This group is designed to create a communication strategy to emphasize the importance of gun safety, especially safe gun storage, in private homes. These communication materials will be shared with guardians/parents school-wide on a regular basis. If you are interested in becoming a member or help lead it, please contact Trish Jewett and/or Craig Chapman.
LGBTQ+

This group is designed to be a space of support for parents and guardians who are either part of the LGBTQ+ community themselves or have children who identify as LGBTQ+. If you are interested to share experiences, build community or are looking for guidance as a member of this group or would even like to help lead it, please contact

We acknowledge and appreciate that TCGIS is located on Waȟpékhute (wah-PEH-koo-tay) Dakota traditional, ancestral, and contemporary homeland, near Lake Medewaka, in the land now known as Minnesota (Mni Sota Makoce). Read our full TCGIS Indigenous Land Acknowledgement here.
