Join us for the first annual TCGIS Lesemarathon

The purpose of our Lesemarathon is to encourage our students' love of reading while exploring German books and authors.

It is also
an interactive and fun part of our spring fundraising campaign since the library is one of our school's  valuable resources that is supported by the TCGIS Annual Fund.

View this slideshow for important details, including templates for asking for pledges, reading resources and information about prizes!

Reading Goals by Age

  • Kindergarten: 15-20 minutes per day
  • Grades 1-4: 20-30 minutes per day
  • Grades 5-8: 30-60 minutes per day

If every TCGIS student reads the minimum amount of minutes listed above as per their grade, we will reach a combined total of approx. 168,350 minutes.

If every TCGIS student reads the maximum amount of minutes as listed above as per their grade, we will reach a combined total of approx. 297,360 minutes!

Do they have to read or be read to in German?

One of the main purposes of our Lesemarathon is to encourage our students to read in German! However:
  • K-4th grade students may track minutes that they read and/or are read to in any language.
  • 5th grade and higher students should only track minutes that they read/are read to in German.*
* New middle school students with no prior knowledge of German are welcome to read in any language as well.

Pledge Donations

TCGIS recognizes that this is a particularly challenging year for many families. Please only make pledges if it is comfortable for your situation.

We invite parents/guardians to share the opportunity to pledge donations for our young readers with family, friends, colleagues if they wish.

All donations from pledges can be submitted through our TCGIS online giving form.  Checks are also accepted (please identify them as Lesemarathon donations).
